The Institute of Optics at University of Rochester is called “A Jewel in the Crown,” and is considered as the birthplace of American Modern Optics. I am happy to introduce this Institute as its 10th Director.

On behalf of the Optical Society (OSA) and Optics Letters (OL), I am honored to meet to the young scientists to present about OSA and OL.

Dr. Xi-Cheng Zhang – Director and Parker Givens Chair at The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester. He is a Fellow of AAAS, APS, IEEE, OSA, and SPIE. His recent awards include 2014 International Society of IRMMW-THz Button Prize; 2012 OSA William F. Meggers Award; 2011 IEEE Photonics Society William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award; and 2009 Rensselaer William H. Wiley Award. He holds several professorships in foreign countries, including Honorable Professor at Moscow Lemonosov University (Russia). Dr. Zhang is the founder of Zomega Terahertz Corp USA. Dr. Zhang has received 29 US patents, authored or co-authored over 300 refereed scientific papers. His h-index is 71, with 25,000 total citation. Dr. Zhang is the Editor-in-Chief of Optics Letters and Director at Large of the Optical Society (2014-2016).
